David Anderson
Chairman of the Board - Sendmail
Formerly Sendmail's president and chief executive officer, David Anderson has more than 30 years of experience in the technology arena including engineering, business development, strategic planning, marketing, and operations. Mr. Anderson is now responsible for guiding Sendmail's board of directors, overseeing the company's growth and expansion into new markets. Prior to joining Sendmail, Inc., Anderson founded DLA Consulting, a consulting firm providing executive guidance to CEOs, including strategic direction, business model validation and finance strategy. Prior to DLA, Anderson served as chief technology officer and senior vice president at Amdahl Corporation, where he developed the redirection of Amdahl's business strategy, transforming it from a mainframe organization to software and services focused operation. Anderson holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Stanford University.


Brian Arbogast
Corporate Vice President, MSN Communications Platform, MSN and Personal Services Division - Microsoft
Brian Arbogast is corporate vice president of the MSN Communications Platform group in the MSN® and Personal Services Division at Microsoft. His teams are responsible for developing the core technology delivered across MSN communications services, including mail, calendar, contacts, instant messaging, and VOIP functionality. He is also responsible for extending MSN services to mobile devices through partnerships with mobile operators around the world.In addition, Arbogast serves as an executive sponsor for privacy, anti-spam and consumer safety issues at Microsoft, focusing on best practices and enabling technologies. He has more than 15 years of experience in leading teams that deliver innovative software solutions. Arbogast joined Microsoft in 1986 as a software developer. He was a technical lead on Access 1.0, after which he left Microsoft and traveled extensively. He returned 15 months later as the group manager for Access, and in 1996 built and led the team that delivered Visual InterDev® 1.0.  He was promoted to corporate vice president in early 2000 and has been helping Microsoft deliver compelling Web services to customers ever since. Arbogast holds a Bachelor's of Mathematics degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

George Bilbrey
VP and GM of Deliverability Services - Return Path, Inc.
George Bilbrey is the Vice President and GM of Deliverability Services at Return Path, Inc. A true pioneer of deliverability solutions, George was the founder and CEO of Assurance Systems, which merged with Return Path in June 2003. He is also a co-founder of Return Path, the industry standard for Email Change of Address (ECOA). Prior to Return Path he was Director of Product Management at Worldprints.com where he managed the development of the Image Catcher screensaver application and supporting web site, which acquired more than two million users in six months. He was formerly a Partner at Mercer Management Consulting in the high tech and telecommunications group, where he developed operational experience in computer manufacturing and telecommunications. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Duke University, and an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business, University of North Carolina.


Des Cahill
Chief Executive Officer - Habeas Inc.
Des Cahill has transformed California-based Habeas from a company best known for haiku poetry to the company that is building the infrastructure for legitimate email. His background includes marketing, sales and operations experience at some of America's best-known technology companies (Apple Computer, America Online, Netscape) and successful stints at some high-profile start-ups (Autonomy, BridgeSpan and eFax.com). Prior to joining Habeas, Cahill was with BridgeSpan, a Benchmark-Sequoia real-estate services firm where he directed marketing, business and corporate development activities. Des is well known on the email and anti-spam speaker circuit, and is an acknowledged authority on sender accreditation and reputation. He advises senders on how to establish their email reputation, and receivers on how to adopt technologies to improve their ability to cost-effectively and reliably process email streams. He is an evangelist for accountability in email.

Jerry Cerasale
SVP, Government Affairs, Direct Marketing Association

Jerry joined The DMA in January 1995, as Senior Vice President, Government Affairs. He is in charge of The DMA’s contact with the Congress, all federal agencies and state and local governments. Prior to joining The DMA he was the Deputy General Counsel for the Committee on Post Office and Civil Service, United States House of Representatives. He served for 12 years at the Postal Rate Commission as Legal Advisor to Chairman Steiger and most recently as Special Assistant to the Commission. He was an attorney advisor to Federal Trade Commission Chairman Steiger. Prior to the PRC he was employed in the Law Department of the Postal Service. He received his B.A. in Government and Economics from Wesleyan University, Middletown Connecticut and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972.


Xavier Coppin
Mail Administrator - Skyguide
Xavier Coppin is the mail administrator at Skyguide (www.skyguide.ch). He has 9 years of experience on Microsoft Exchange products. Switzerland-based Skyguide is the country’s official provider of air traffic control for civil and military aircraft. In August 2005, Skyguide entered the Microsoft Technology Adoption Program (TAP) and began running a beta version of Exchange Server 2003 SP2. The IT group continued using the connection, recipient, and sender filtering features of Exchange Server 2003 along with the new IMF and Sender ID features. In addition, the group used several third-party real-time block lists (RBLs) to aid in connection filtering. Although the new Exchange Server 2003 SP2 solution is virtually invisible to Skyguide users, it has greatly reduced the number of spam messages that users receive in their inboxes and junk e-mail folders.


Jonathan Curtis
Messaging Architect - Bell Canada; Chairman MAAWG
Jonathan Curtis has worked with Bell Canada for 10 years. His first 3 years were spent in Internet Operations and Engineering support of E-Mail, AAA, LDAP, DNS and Core Networks. For the past 7 years, Jonathan has provided Technology Architecture guidance to combat Spam, Phishing, Virus and Worms for Bell’s 2.1 Million DSL subscribers. Jonathan currently holds the position of Chairman of the Board for the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG) representing over 500 Million mailboxes world wide. He is leading the Emerging Technologies Working Group for the Canadian Coalition Against Internet Child Exploitation. Since 2004, he has helped create and drive adoption of the Anti-Spam Best Practices for ISP's as part of the Industry Canada Federal Anti-Spam Task Force. Jonathan spends the winter months in Canada on his outdoor rink, complete with heated sky-box and lighting. He states that the rink was "built for the kids", however the grand scale depicts a different story.

Jim Fenton
Cisco Distinguished Engineer - Cisco Systems
Jim Fenton is a Distinguished Engineer in Cisco's Security Technology Group (STG). Mr. Fenton is responsible for defining a number of new initiatives relating to router-based security, which encompasses technologies such as firewall, intrusion prevention, address translation, and encryption. He is also an active member of the design team for DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), and was the lead architect for one of its predecessors, Identified Internet Mail. In previous roles at Cisco, Mr. Fenton has managed development efforts relating to VoIP features for service providers, store-and-forward fax, and was a key member of the team that established Cisco in the dial access market. Mr. Fenton came to Cisco from the acquisition of Combinet, Inc., where he was Director of Technology and drove the introduction of IP and IPX routing to Combinet's products. Mr. Fenton is a past President and Board Chair of Schola Cantorum, a local 120-member choral group. Mr. Fenton has Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.


Richard Gingras
CEO and Co-founder - Goodmail Systems
Richard Gingras is CEO and Co-founder of Goodmail Systems, developers of the Certified Email service. Richard has led pioneering development efforts in online services and new media, including satellite networking for television, data distribution over television, content programming, proprietary and web-based online services, and various platform technologies. He has guided many new ventures including Audio Mill (merged into Real Networks), web applications platform provider Laszlo Systems, and broadband applications platform developer Sugar Media (merged into 2Wire). From 1996 – 2000 he led online service efforts at @Home, becoming SVP and General Manager of Excite@Home’s consumer-focused product division, Excite Studios. In the early 90's Richard led the development of the eWorld online service at Apple Computer and in 1979 created the first interactive set top-based online service in a partnership with CBS, NBS, and PBS.


Trevor Hughes, Esq., CIPP
Executive Director - ESPC
J. Trevor Hughes is an attorney specializing in ecommerce, privacy and technology law. Hughes serves as the Executive Director of the Network Advertising Initiative (the NAI) and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (the IAPP). In his role with the NAI, Hughes leads the NAI's efforts to create manageable standards for industry at the intersection of privacy and technology. He leads the NAI's Email Service Provider Coalition, an organization that is dedicated to developing technological and public policy tools to reduce spam and protect legitimate email. In his role with the IAPP, Hughes leads the world's largest association of privacy professionals.

Ben Isaacson
Privacy & Compliance Leader, CIPP - CheetahMail
Mr. Isaacson currently serves as the Privacy & Compliance Leader for CheetahMail, overseeing all interactive marketing policy and email deliverability issues affecting CheetahMail and Experian's diverse marketing services client-base. Since 1996, Mr. Isaacson has been an interactive industry leader assisting in the global development of self-regulatory and regulatory policies, guidelines and best practices for the interactive marketing industry. Some of Mr. Isaacson's many leadership efforts include serving as a Co-Chair of the Email Sender & Provider Coalition's (ESPC) Receiver Relations Committee, serving as an Advisory Board Member to the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), driving the adoption of Anti-Spyware Principles for the Web Analytics Association (WAA), and leading CheetahMail's participation with numerous other industry groups including the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG). Erik Johnson
VP, Program Manager : E-mail Infrastructure & Secure Messaging - Bank of America
Erik Johnson is the E-mail Infrastructure and Secure Messaging Program Manager at Bank of America (BAC). He is the project manager for Sender Authentication and also leads or provides oversight for other projects related to e-mail hygiene, security, infrastructure and regulatory compliance efforts. Erik Joined BAC from FleetBoston Financial, where he was the lead architect responsible for designing and implementing enterprise messaging and collaboration solutions. Prior to working at Fleet/BAC he worked as a principal consultant with The Charlton Group, a boutique consulting firm, by providing business technology solutions specializing in messaging technologies to Fortune 1000 companies in the New England area. He was instrumental in helping The Charlton Group achieve recognition as a member of Deloitte & Touche's Technology Fast 500 in 1998. Erik has 17 years experience helping companies leverage technology solutions to meet business needs.


Stephanie Jordan

A technology and email veteran, Stephanie Jordan is the editor of Messaging News, a magazine targeted exclusively to email, instant messaging, and collaboration technology and issues. She has moderated panel discussions at INBOX, The Email Technology Event in both 2004 and 2005 and was the program director for the Email Technology Conference in 2004. Drawing on her nearly two-decades of technology experience, Stephanie has edited and contributed to industry publications, as well as writes and edits for publications outside the industry. Stephanie is a crusader against email abuse and believes consumers are the missing link in the fight against unwanted and fraudulent email. She recently founded FixingEmail.org, a group with a mission to establish a "Neighborhood Watch" for email and to educate consumers about private and government initiatives to curb email abuse.

Harry Katz
Program Manager, Technology Care and Safety Group - Microsoft Corp.
Harry Katz is a program manager with the Technology Care and Safety Group at Microsoft. Harry has most recently been driving Sender ID, an industry-wide approach to dealing with the problem of email spoofing and phishing. Previously Harry was responsible for the email hygiene capabilities of Exchange Server. Since joining Microsoft 8 years ago, he has also worked on Exchange connectors and developer tools. Prior to Microsoft, Harry worked as a project manager with LinkAge Software on a variety of email gateway and directory synchronization products. Harry has a Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.


Dave Lewis
Vice President, Market Development - StrongMail Systems, Inc.
A 20-year direct marketing veteran - both offline and online - Dave Lewis is the Vice President of Alliances & Market Development for StrongMail Systems. Dave is a recognized industry thought-leader on email marketing, deliverability and best practices, and has frequently spoken and written on the challenges facing today's e-marketers. He is often quoted in the industry and national press, and has authored recent articles in DIRECT, DM News, Target and 1to1 Magazine. Dave is also active with the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and Email Sender & Provider Coalition (ESPC). He serves on the ESPC steering committee and co-chairs the working group that's responsible for outreach to the receiver community and the evaluation of reputation systems.

Laura Mather
Director, Fraud Prevention, eBay

Laura Mather is the Director of Fraud Prevention at eBay, Inc. where she manages a team responsible for Phishing prevention and minimizing fraudulent emails sent through eBay's member to member email system. Laura's team has launched anti-Phishing initiatives such as the Account Guard function of the eBay Toolbar, eBay's My Messages system, and the Phish Report Network (through WholeSecurity). Her team has also initiated several Phishing prevention education efforts including the eBay Spoof Tutorial and several online workshops describing account protection techniques. In addition, Laura's team has sponsored the launch of SPF for both eBay and PayPal and the Domain Keys/DKIM initiative for eBay. Prior to joining eBay, Laura was the Director of Research and Technology for Encyclopaedia Britannica where her team built website activity tracking tools. Prior to that she was a mathematician for the Department of Defense. Laura received a Ph.D. in computer science and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado.

Gene McKenna
Vice President of Project Management - Digital Impact
Gene McKenna is VP of Product Management at Digital Impact where he oversees design and strategy of the industry’s leading digital marketing products. In Gene’s tenure at Digital Impact he has guided the core IMPACT product through several releases and introduced new solutions for transactional email, RSS communications and email authentication. Gene is active with Digital Impacts Fortune 200 clients in shaping their email authentication and anti-phishing strategies. He serves as the co-chair of the ESPC Technology Committee and has coauthored books on web-based application security. Prior to his position at Digital Impact he served as Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Bluedot Software (now part of Ambassadors International) a firm specializing in event marketing automation. McKenna holds degrees in Engineering Systems and Computation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a graduate degree in Education from Stanford University.

Dan Moncada
System and Network Administrator - Lander Co., Inc.
Dan Moncada is the System and Network Administrator for Lander Co., Inc., responsible with managing and balancing the various aspects of function, performance, and security to provide a rich environment for business operations, communications, and collaboration without compromising or conceding organization health and security. Under new ownership and management, Lander enters into a new segment of its business market where data integrity and communication outside the organization are now mission critical requirements. Providing validation for access, authentication, and authorization is the key focus for Dan within Lander today. Dan joined Lander in 1998 as the primary resource for a design and implementation of a new internal TCP/IP network and services across the organization, spanning four locations across North America. Dan and Lander look toward the future supporting endeavors within technology to reduce the problems of today: spam, phishing, and other threats which impact organizations both inbound and outbound as the problems of spoofing from malicious programs or hosts can be greatly reduced by participating and utilizing domain identification protocols.


Patrick Peterson
Vice President of Technology - IronPort Systems
Patrick Peterson is Vice President of Technology at IronPort Systems. He began at IronPort performing market research and product definition for the email infrastructure products that have become IronPort's Email Security Appliances and was instrumental in the creation of SenderBase, the industry's first and largest email traffic monitoring service. Prior to joining IronPort Systems, Peterson held engineering and marketing management positions at Savi Technology, including managing the Engineering and Manufacturing departments as Vice President, Engineering Operations. Peterson played a critical role during the sale of the company to Texas Instruments and also in winning a $111 million competitively bid logistics contract. Peterson holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University and holds patents related to antennas, radio frequency communications and email authentication techniques.

Sanjay Pol

Sanjay Pol is the Vice President, New Business Ventures, Messaging Security for Cisco Systems, Inc. Sanjay has been with Cisco for 10 years and he helps advance Cisco's strong commitment to keep the Internet secure, clean and credible for enabling inter personal and inter company communications. Sanjay's academic background includes an MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Masters of Science in Computer Science from North Carolina State University as well as a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering. John L. Scarrow
General Manager, Technology Care and Safety Group - Microsoft Corp.
John is responsible for driving Microsoft's anti-spam and anti-phishing strategy and technology development. Scarrow's team works closely with other groups across the company to integrate anti-spam and anti-phishing technologies into Microsoft® products and services to ensure that the company maintains its leadership position in the fight against the improper or criminal use of the Internet. The team takes a multifaceted approach that includes technology, user education, legislation, leadership and litigation. Scarrow came to Microsoft in 1992 as a program manager, and since that time has held diverse roles throughout the MSN services and the Windows division. As general manager of MSN.com and MSNBC.com, Scarrow oversaw a complex reorganization process that consolidated MSN® media properties and streamlined the organization to improve the customer experience. During that time he was on the board of directors for MSNBC and managed efforts for contributing MSN products such as MSN Autos, MSN Money, MSN Investor and a host of other media sites. Before coming to Microsoft, Scarrow worked for Oki Data Americas Inc., where he helped develop patented technology that led to the first low-cost laser printers. Scarrow holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Davis, where he was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. In his spare time, Scarrow enjoys golf, motocross, autos, high-speed power boats and coaching his children's soccer teams.


Ken Schneider
Chief Architect, Network and Gateway Security Solutions  - Symantec Corporation
Ken Schneider serves as chief architect, Network and Gateway Security Solutions, where he drives the group?s technology roadmap, system architecture, and key technology partnerships related to the network and gateway security businesses. He is also responsible for the overall network and gateway security technology strategy. Prior to joining Symantec, Ken served as CTO and VP of Operations of Brightmail, the leading anti-spam software company that was successfully acquired by Symantec. Before Brightmail, Ken founded and was president of South Beach Software, a software company that developed international language and paint system products for the professional video market.  Prior to that, Ken was an independent software consultant for clients such as Sun Microsystems, Digital Equipment Corporation and Tektronix. He has also held engineering positions at Integrated Systems and at the John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

Craig Spiezle
Director of Business & Industry Strategy for the Technology Care and Safety Group - Microsoft Corp.
As Director of Business & Industry Strategy for the Technology Care and Safety Group at Microsoft Corp., Craig Spiezle is responsible for coordinating Microsoft's broad Internet safety efforts to address issues such as anti-spam and anti-phishing for enterprise customers and consumers through a holistic approach to technology, standards, public policy and enforcement. In this role, Spiezle manages the company's involvement with industry working groups, industry partners and governmental agencies.  In his industry leadership role, Craig is on the Board of MAAWG, Steering Committee of APWG and the Executive Director of email.authenitcation.org.  Starting with Microsoft in 1992, Spiezle has held various managerial positions including international channel development, OEM licensing and product support services, where he led product launches, business development and technology partnerships while creating and implementing channel segmentation strategies.  During his tenure, Spiezle pioneered research into the convergence of technology and an aging society, authoring books and papers and presenting worldwide including to the United Nations, U.S. Senate and to other organizations demonstrating the benefits of computing and its impact to creativity, community and employability.  Forming AgeLight LLC, Spiezle has consulted to AARP, American Society on Ageing, Pfizer, Secure Horizons, Del-Webb and other companies regarding the opportunities of the AgeWave.  Spiezle hold a BS in Photographic Sciences from Rochester Institute of Technology, and an MBA from Seattle University.


Pablo Stern
Lead Program Manager, MSN Hotmail - Microsoft Corp.
Pablo Stern is a Lead Program Manager at Microsoft. He leads the team in charge of anti-spam and e-mail delivery for MSN Hotmail. During his tenure, Pablo has worked on integrating various anti-spam solutions into Hotmail including Symantec Brightmail, SmartScreen™, the Bonded Sender Program, Anti-Phishing and Sender ID verification, and increasing industry awareness through Postmaster initiatives. Prior to working at Microsoft, Pablo held software development positions at various start-ups and large communication solutions providers. He is a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. where he holds dual bachelors degrees, with high honors in Computer Science, and Engineering.


Erich Stokes
Systems Engineer - Dell, Inc.
With fourteen years system engineering experience, Erich Stokes has spent the last five years working in Dell's IT department. He began his work at Dell as an Application Systems Engineer specializing in manufacturing and then, in 2003, moved over to the Messaging and Directory engineering team. In February 2004, Erich and two other engineers worked together to deploy IronPort Systems as Dell's SMTP gateway solution. Over the past two years, Erich has been the lead engineer on the SMTP infrastructure. He has spearheaded efforts to globally consolidate desparate SMTP systems within Dell. This consolidation has led to consistent configurations and allowed for more efficient adoption of new standards.The adoption of Sender ID and DomainKeys are primary examples of new email authentication technologies which Dell has implemented.

Charles Stiles
Postmaster - America Online, Inc.
Charles Stiles is Postmaster for America Online and is charged with the delivery of email for AOL and associated email properties. This role includes the oversight of spam filtering technologies and the resolution of potential delivery issues. During his ten years at AOL he has focused his efforts on improving the customer experience through a better use of technology in Member Services, the AOL Network Operation Center and now as Postmaster for one of the largest email systems in the world. He currently serves as the Co-Vice Chair for the Messaging Anti-Abuse Work Group and is Co-Chair for the MAAWG Collaboration Committee. Charles speaks frequently with industry analysts and at industry events, working closely with others to help generate a better understanding of the email environment and potential solutions for a better consumer experience.


Ken Takahashi
Vice President of Strategic Partnerships - DoubleClick
Ken Takahashi is Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for DoubleClick Email Solutions. In this role, Ken is responsible for identifying, building and managing technology and business partnerships for all aspects of DoubleClick Email Solutions. In addition, his delivery management team, located throughout North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific regions manage day-to-day client delivery challenges, operational policies and procedures. Ken joined DoubleClick as part of the MessageMedia acquisition where he served since 1999, most recently as Regional Manager for client integration initiatives. He has also held positions at Hachette Filipacchi Media and VNU/Claritas. Ken holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Michael S. Zaneis is Director of Congressional and Public Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. As the chief technology and telecommunications lobbyist, Zaneis oversees issues affecting the business community pertaining to telecommunications, data security, intellectual property, counterfeiting, piracy, online and consumer privacy, and e-commerce. Prior to joining the Chamber's lobby team, Zaneis served as the organization's Director of Technology Policy. He has worked in politics for the past 12 years in Washington, DC and Michigan. He received his bachelors degree from Michigan State University and both his J.D. and Masters in Public Policy from Georgetown University.
